James Lee Sorenson, CEO of Sorenson Media, today will present Dwight Benedict, chair of the 2007 Deaflympic Winter Games Organizing Committee, with a check for $250,000. The quarter-million-dollar donation to the 2007 Deaflympic Winter Games will take place during a news conference called by Utah Governor Jon M. Huntsman Jr. to announce that Utah has been selected as the site for the international sporting event for the deaf and hard-of-hearing community.

The 16th Winter Games, under the patronage of the International Olympic Committee, is an athletic and cultural gathering for the world's deaf and hard-of-hearing that will draw hundreds of male and female athletes and thousands of their fans to Salt Lake City, Park City and Soldier Hollow Nordic Center Feb. 1-10, 2007.

"We are excited to be a part of an international athletic event that also has a greater meaning and importance. The Deaflympics encourages healthy participation in sports and promotes understanding between the deaf community and the hearing population," said Sorenson. "Watching these gifted athletes compete here after years of preparation will continue to inspire us every day -- long after the 2007 winter games are finished."

Sorenson Media is the nation's largest Video Relay Service (VRS) provider for the deaf. The Salt Lake City-based technology company is a video compression software and videophone developer that created a free video relay service for the deaf and hard-of-hearing. Sorenson VRS employs a nationwide network of American Sign Language interpreters who receive videophone calls from deaf individuals and interpret conversations for them with hearing people. The innovative video relay service enables America's 28 million deaf and hard-of-hearing people to more fully integrate into mainstream business and culture.

"This generous donation from Sorenson Media will help Deaflympics put on a world-class sports competition and a premier cultural event for the deaf and hard-of-hearing community and their friends," said Benedict. "We greatly appreciate Sorenson Media's support."
