No sign of missing deaf woman near Flagstaff

Ariz. Searchers in the Flagstaff area say the fact that a missing woman is hearing-impaired is restricting some of the resources they would utilize in a traditional search.

Thirty-year-old Mistie Jean McWhirter is 90-percent hearing-impaired.

A Coconino County Sheriff's spokesman says that means the use of car horns, sirens, even shouting are ineffective.

Instead, searchers have been hoisting lighting in the hopes the young woman may see it and move in that direction.

Searchers are now under the belief that she is injured or otherwise immobile.

Searchers have been using foot, jeep and mounted patrols as well as aircraft in their hunt for the woman.

She was last seen during a hike Sunday afternoon in a wooded area southwest of Flagstaff.
