Protect your hearing
In recent years I have been disconcerted by the number of families that bring their young children and infants to movie theaters. What many parents see as a beneficial family activity, I see as a health hazard.
With new advances in technology and sound, movie theaters have increased their volumes to a dangerous extent. The screaming infants around me in the theater confirm this unsettling trend.
The latest edition of Newsweek verifies that movies today, in their attempt to impress the audience with rumbling special effects, put our generation at a greater risk for hearing loss than our parents and grandparents.
While it is perhaps too controversial to enforce a statewide limit on decibel levels, I instead propose the following to theater owners: provide free earplugs for patrons who forgot to bring their own, but neverthless want to see a movie without the hearing damage.
