Hearing aids much improved over last few years

The most common solution to hearing loss is still the hearing aid, but it has improved a lot over the years.

Research and technology have made hearing aids much better and smaller. You can even get them now in bright, bright colors.

Stephanie B. McVicar, Audiology Supervisor, U of U Health System: "Hearing loss typically sneaks up on us gradually, and they don't realize how much they've lost until they're able to come in to the sound booth and get a hearing test."

Even if you've tried a hearing aid, McVicar says try again.

Stephanie B. McVicar: "If someone tried a hearing aid even three years ago, things have gotten so much better."

Some models are even fully automatic.

Stephanie B. McVicar: "It will detect noise no matter where the source is, reduce the noise. It's amazing. I mean nothing's perfect. It's not like having normal hearing, but we've come a long way."

There are even hearing aids now that are using artificial intelligence that NASA uses in order to listen to the surroundings. So if those around you are having to repeat themselves too often, maybe it's time to get your hearing checked by a professional. It's painless and could result in a welcome improvement for you and your family and friends.
