Vietnam gets first sign language dictionary
Vietnam’s first-ever sign language dictionary was launched Wednesday by the Ho Chi Minh City Education University with assistance from Samsung Electronics.
The dictionary, with an online version at http://vsdic.net/td and a CD-Rom, has 3,900 signs corresponding to over 2,000 words. Each word is described using sounds, words, and illustrations. Users can also edit the dictionary.
It has English translations to help hearing-impaired learners learn an international language and foreigners get an insight into hearing-impaired people in Vietnam.
The project was a culmination of the compilers’ efforts to unify the sign language system to help the hearing-impaired communicate and study effectively.
