Hearing assistance for aquarium visitors

New, easy-to-use technology is now available to aid those who may have trouble hearing during daily exhibit presentations at the North Carolina Aquarium at Fort Fisher.

The new listening-assistance devices encase an amplifier within a small battery-powered earpiece. The user can control the volume, and the earpiece fits comfortably over either a naked ear, or on top of additional hearing-aid devices.

The devices are new, and come as an additional aid to scripts, which allow visitors to read along with exhibit presentations.

Both the listening-assistance devices and scripts are free of charge, and are available at the Visitors’ Service Desk.

For more information about either the listening devices or available scripts, contact Jackie Harris at 910-458-8257 Ext. 213 or Peggy Sloan at 910-458-8257 Ext. 230.

North Carolina’s three public aquariums are located at Fort Fisher, at Pine Knoll Shores, and on Roanoke Island. Administered by the N.C. Department of Environment and Natural Resources, the aquariums are designed to inspire appreciation and conservation of North Carolina’s aquatic environments. For more information, see www.ncaquariums.com.

The N.C. Aquariums are accredited members of the American Zoo and Aquarium Association (AZA). AZA envisions a world where all people respect, value, and conserve animals and nature. With its more than 200 accredited members, AZA is a leader in global wildlife conservation, and your link to helping animals in their native habitats.
