Gallaudet University Press marks 25 years of publishing
Over the past 25 years the GU Press has published 300 novels, reference books, scholarly works and other publications. Its most recent list of titles includes Richard Medina's Deaf Daughter, Hearing Father, a story about the author's family and his quest over the past 14 years to find the best educational opportunities for his deaf daughter.
Another recent GU Press product is the fourth edition of the landmark reference, Linguistics of American Sign Language: An Introduction, written by Clayton Valli, Ceil Lucas, and Kristin J. Mulrooney. This edition offers new and updated units on the basics of American Sign Language grammar.
The Rising of Lotus Flowers: Self-Education by Deaf Children in Thai Boarding Schools, by Charles Reilly and Nipapon Reilly, provides the results of a 14-year study of 400 deaf students in the Bua School, a boarding school for deaf children in Thailand. The study shows how deaf Thai students taught one another Thai sign language and in doing so, opened up a world of knowledge to the students.
