125 Florida lawmakers to receive new hearing aids when legislature convenes
Florida Citizens For Term Limits has announced a breakthrough in its campaign to improve the hearing of our legislators. On Monday, the group offered a powerful hearing amplifier to each legislator who voted to extend term limits. Only two lawmakers, Florida House Speaker Pro-Tempore, Leslie Waters and Senator Walter "Skip" Campbell, Jr. have declined delivery.
Powerful hearing aids will be delivered to the offices of the remaining 125 lawmakers at the opening of the legislative session this March. The devices will be a reminder to politicians to listen to the voice of the voters. Florida voters cast their ballots overwhelmingly in favor of eight - year term limits in 1992, but recently 127 lawmakers voted to give Florida politicians more time in office.
"The problem is that Florida voters keep saying eight years, but the legislature is hearing 12 & 24 years," said the group's president, Max Linn. "They're just not listening to voters who cast their ballots by a solid 77% margin in favor of eight-year term limits, so we have decided to improve their hearing," Linn said today.
"Polls show that voters still support the current term limits law," Linn commented, "but lawmakers aren't listening. We are personally delivering hearing devices with powerful amplifiers so even politically tone-deaf legislators can hear the voice of the voters." In the spirit of better political hearing, politicians with stubborn blockages will also be offered earwax removal kits to help with their inability to listen.
Florida Citizens For Term Limits is an organization conducting a statewide campaign to defeat the legislators' latest effort to extend their terms by changing the term limits law.
Florida Citizens For Term Limits will sponsor two of its own voter initiatives on the 2008 ballot. An initiative called 'Eight & Out,' would prevent politicians from running for any elected position for a five-year period after serving an eight-year term. The group will also sponsor a voter initiative calling for the end of taxpayer-funded pensions for politicians.

We at Florida Citizens for Term Limits recognize hearing loss as a serious problem. We mean no offense to those suffering from real hearing impairment. But we do urge Florida’s politicians to make better use of their faculties in order to hear and respect the will of the voters.
