Hearing Aid Store Bailed On Us
Customers of Family Hearing Aid Centers of Florida Inc. say they have been left in limbo without their merchandise when local stores suddenly closed after the company filed for bankruptcy protection.
"We've had a lot of complaints - seven calls I've logged," said Tina West, manager of the Better Business Council, which is affiliated with the Manatee Chamber of Commerce.
She said chamber colleagues also have been fielding other complaint calls.
The company filed for Chapter 7 bankruptcy protection Dec. 12. The company operated four stores in the Manatee-Sarasota area.
"They're all sorts of complaints, some with service issues," said West. Others had not received hearing aids they had ordered, she said.
More complaint calls were received by the Better Business Bureau of West Central Florida in Clearwater, said West.
Gloria Throneburg, listed as company president, and co-debtor Daniel Throneburg could not be reached for comment.
Throneburg's attorney, James D. Jackman, of Bradenton, did not return calls Wednesday.
Those who want to file claims against the company can contact Bankruptcy Trustee Angela Welch Esposito, P.O. Box 549, Odessa, FL 33556-0549 or phone (813) 814-0836 according to papers filed in connection with the case now before the U.S. Bankruptcy Court, Middle District of Florida in Tampa.
An upcoming creditors' meeting supervised by the court is set for 11 a.m. Jan. 18 at 501 E. Polk St., Room 100-A, Tampa.
For most creditors, proof of claims must be received by the bankruptcy clerk's office by April 17.
