Hearing-Impaired Carjacking Victim Fights Back

A Daytona Beach carjacker was able to sneak up on his victim, because the man was hearing-impaired.

The carjacking victim was just trying to put air in his tires at an apartment complex off Derbyshire Road Thursday. The victim tried to fight back when he saw the carjacker.

John Alexander is still a little stunned and has a sore elbow to go along with it. He was filling up the passenger side tire of his gold Pontiac. When he looked in his air pump, he said to himself, “Doesn't work...so I look up I saw.”

John saw a man who authorities believe jumped in his car. John didn't hear him coming.
“Drove off and I’m trying to grab his shirt,” he described.

Paul James was heading out to his car and noticed something wasn't right.

“You know when someone is out of place. These two were very out of place,” James said.
As he drove through the complex, he noticed two suspicious young men on bicycles and Alexander’s vehicle doors and trunk open.

“As soon as I saw the car behind me, I was grabbing my phone. I instantly knew he was in the car, he stole the car, it was obvious,” James said.

James’ 911 call started the search for Alexander’s vehicle that was later found in a woman's driveway on Sunset Circle.

“No damage, nothing,” Alexander said.

“I've lived here four years and I love it here, absolutely love it here,” James said.
Alexander got his car back, and James is just happy he could be a good neighbor.
