What if their house burns up around them,
from some ordinary cause, like an electrical cord, as they say.... "While we are taking a nap" ????
Being hearing impaired entails some extra planning doesn't it?

as a mother who has a hearing impaired child, i know exactly what Joanna is saying. It's so hard to find the right support, and the right advise. Congratulations Joanna for coming up with such a fantastic idea as the book. I wish it had been around when my child was diagonised. I wish you all the best with this venture, and I know it will take off, and I look forward, to seeing it as a regular handout at Deaf Children Australia and Australian Hearing.

I would like to point out that this film does not have captions or subtitles, so deaf people cannot enjoy this film until it comes out on DVD. When asked why, director Thomas Reidelsheimer said it was because they would interfere with the visual aesthetic of the film. I wrote an article about this, which was covered here: http://www.boingboing.net/2005/09/13/deaf_people_not_acco.html

At the present time I believe the VA is dispensing hearing aids to any Veteran that wants them whether their hearing loss is a service connected disability or not. WWII Veterans are dying at the rate of 1500 per day so the Audiology Department of the VA is running out of clients. To keep receiving funding and keep employees I believe they are dispensing hearing aids to anyone who served regardless of whether they were ever subjected to war-time noise. The youngest age you could be now to have served in WWII would be 78 (born 1928 - age 17 in 1945). Most WWII Vets are in their 80s. I believe a study of Vets & Non-Vets in the same age groups would reflect no difference in hearing loss. Its the age not the War Time status. If there is an incentive to give away hearing aids (Keep your Budget and your Job) you can assume everyone who needs them will take advantage of the Free Program. (Free at least to the People that receive them). The incentive and motivation to the receiving Vets is also the fact of the absurd prices hearing aids are being sold at. It is hard to believe for most People that a hearing aid that is being sold at $5000-6000 dollars cost the Dispenser less than $1000 dollars. The Manufacturers of hearing aids use to receive from $100 to $300 dollars per aid are now receiving from $300 to $1000 per aid. The only cost difference is a DSP chip and software cost. Unbelievable.

I am doing a speech for the festival of speeches in our community. The topic is turning down the volume. For many people I would just like to suggest a few tips for you guys:
Do not listen to your music for more than an hour a day
Switch to more of an over the ear headphone
Or even turn down the volume
I enjoyed reading these messages
Peace Out Homedogs =) <3

We at Florida Citizens for Term Limits recognize hearing loss as a serious problem. We mean no offense to those suffering from real hearing impairment. But we do urge Florida’s politicians to make better use of their faculties in order to hear and respect the will of the voters.

Florida Citizens for Term Limits means no disprespect to the hearing impaired. We recognize that hearing loss is a serious problem and do not intend to make light of the issue. However we do take issue with legislators that do not listen to the voters. We are using a toy form of hearing amplifier to make the simple, satirical point that that legislators are apparently unable to listen to the voters.
